Celebration of the Eucharist
"In order to leave them a pledge of this love, in order never to depart from his own and to make them sharers in his Passover, he instituted the Eucharist as the memorial of his death and Resurrection and commanded his apostles to celebrate it until his return..." - CCC., no. 1337, citing Council of Trent
First Eucharist preparation is provided in the Religious Education Program, and for students attending St. John Bosco School, in the classroom. First Eucharist is usually celebrated in the spring for students in second grade.
In addition to weekend masses the Eucharist is celebrated during the week and on Holy Days - see Mass Schedule.
Please notify the parish office, 743-2062, if you would like the Eucharist brought to those confined to their homes.
First Eucharist
For the administration of the Eucharist to children, it is required that they have sufficient knowledge and careful preparation so as to understand the mystery of Christ's presence according to their capacity, and can receive the Body of the Lord with faith and devotion.
The child's readiness for the celebration of the sacrament is to be determined by the child, the parent, catechist and the Faith Formation Coordinator. The reception of the Eucharist should be preceded by the sacrament of Reconciliation. The age of discretion is the time when a child begins to reason, that is, about the seventh year.
Preparation for the sacrament of Holy Eucharist begins in the first grade and is ordinarily celebrated in the spring for youth in the second grade. Older children (3rd & above) should contact the Faith Formation Coordinator for more information. Parents are asked to participate in helping to prepare their child for this sacrament by attending the required meetings and events.
